Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I consider a career as a dental assistant?

Dental assisting can be three things for you:

  • a rewarding job
  • job security
  • attractive earning potential

Plus, in many cases, you will get great benefits like bonuses, health insurance, free dental care, paid time off, and sick leave. If you are looking for a flexible schedule to allow you to work part-time, you can find that too. Dental assisting is also a great step toward other dental professions such as dental hygienist or to one day become a dentist.

  • Do I need previous experience?

Most students have no experience in dental assisting. We only expect you to study, learn and do your best and have fun!

  • Will the classes be hard if I have been away from school for a while?

Whether you are a recent high school graduate, looking to change careers, or returning to the workplace, most students adapt quickly to our hands-on sessions. The school is part of a practicing dental office that is closed to the public during class, so students feel less pressure. Our instructors have years of experience in dental assisting and hold several certifications. They love sharing their knowledge and experience with students like you. They are here for your success! If you experience difficulties, we can arrange additional help.

  • Do I need to buy books or supplies?

Your textbook, learning material, scrubs and supplies are all included in the tuition. We also pay for your CPR training and certification exams. You just need to bring a positive attitude and a desire to learn. We require students to wear the VIP scrubs given to you at orientation during class.

  • What is a class day like?

Typically classes are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. The classes are stimulating, fast-paced, and rely on your participation. Each day typically consists of lectures and group assignments to practice what we learned in a dentist’s office. We use a college-level textbook, handouts, and illustrations. During the week, you will be expected to complete reading assignments and homework. This allows us to spend more classroom time on hands-on practice.

  • Will the course prepare me to become a certified dental assistant in Arizona?

Yes, To legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiographic procedures in Arizona, a dental assistant must hold a current Arizona board-approved certificate in radiology. To obtain a certificate, one must pass the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam. Students must also pass the DANB Coronal Polishing (CP) exam to perform coronal polishing procedures. Our course is designed to train inexperienced but committed individuals to become qualified candidates as entry- level dental assistants.

  • Can I come by and see the dental office before I enroll?

Yes, we encourage you in order to be comfortable with your decision. Contact us to arrange a visit. We will answer your questions and give you a tour of our office. We recommend bringing a friend or a family member along. We know this is a big decision.
